Excerpt: I sighed and looked up to see Gabe saunter around the corner. The ragged cap was gone, and his dark hair waved down the back of his neck. He wore it loosely pushed away from his forehead with just the hint of rebellious curl. A pale-blue button up replaced the frayed thermal, the sleeves rolled to his elbows. A sense that I knew from somewhere hit me again, nagging me like a fly buzzing around my ear. Feeling lightheaded, I realized I’d stopped breathing and sucked in a lungful of oxygen.
